Make Bootable USB drive for any Linux Distro !!
Now, It is way too easy to make a Bootable USB drive with a ISO image file of your favourite Linux distro that you downloaded. I googled for this and I got tools that made bootable USB drives for Ubuntu, Fedora, SUSE etc. but , it was hard to find one single tool that can do the needful for any Linux distro , given that I have the .ISO image file of that distro .
Now, my googling worked and here we have UNetBootin(Universal Netboot Installer) a superb tool that not only makes a bootable USB/Flash drive and even a bootable USB HDD from a ISO image, but it can also Download some specific distro’s right from the Internet and make the bootable USb drive out of it , so you can try this option if you have a broadband connection .
Prominent features include ,
1. Software available for both Windows and Linux
2. It has support for various System utilities
3. Works, flawlessly with most of the Linux Distro’s
4. It is free under GPL V2
UNetbootin can also be used to load various system utilities, including:
Parted Magic, a partition manager that can resize, repair, backup, and restore partitions.
Super Grub Disk, a boot utility that can restore and repair overwritten and misconfigured GRUB installs or directly boot various operating systems
Backtrack, a utility used for network analysis and penetration testing.
Ophcrack, a utility which can recover Windows passwords.
NTPasswd, a utility which can reset Windows passwords and edit the registry.
Gujin, a graphical bootloader that can also be used to boot various operating systems and media.
Smart Boot Manager (SBM), which can boot off CD-ROM and floppy drives on computers with a faulty BIOS.
FreeDOS, which can run BIOS flash and other legacy DOS utilities.
I tried it with gOS Linux which was not in the default list of UNeBootin , but even then it made a flawless bootable USB drive out of it , and the USB drive booted successfully, without any problems .
Enjoy Linux !!
