I was busy setting up techstroke.com when my WordPress dashboard flashed a message saying wordpress 2.6 is available . It was great , like others i was a bit reluctant to upgrading , fearing loss of data or other problems , but believe me it’s easy and necessary so as to prevent your wordpress blog from being hacked .
How to Upgrade :-
Well , that’s really simple for people like me having their blogs , setup by the Dreamhost(my web hosting provider) one-click installer/updater . You can find it in your goodies section , but for others here is how to accomplish the herculean task of upgrading to latest wordpress version .
WordPress Docs have a article on how to upgrade but i will tell you it is confusing and not good for someone in a hurry, rather go for this plugin WordPress automatic Upgrade , install it and just activate it and it will do the rest and the best part is it will maintain your initial theme and plugin settings .
WordPress 2.6 doesn’t appear to introduce any mind-blowing new features, but there do appear to be some new features that will prove useful.
- Live theme preview – very handy if you frequently change your theme. Now you won’t affect online users while you experiment
- Revision history – useful for multi-author blogs
- Google Gears support – store WordPress images, scripts etc on a PC to speedup the site
- Number of active plugins are displayed
- Image editing in posts has enhanced,
and many more , use it to explore it .
I found the live theme preview and Google gears support most interesting , also take a look at this nice video .
